JOHANNESBURG – THE Democratic Alliance believes Johannesburg City Parks could help address youth unemployment in the city.

According to Democratic Alliance Councillor, Nazley Khan Sharif, City Parks could look at using open spaces to have events where young people can showcase their talents and enjoy what the city has to offer.

“Particularly during this youth month, City Parks can adopt the Johannesburg Zoo model that incorporates youth programmes to get them involved youth in Johannesburg just like in the rest of South Africa still struggles to get opportunities that will help them improve their lives,” Sharif said.

The official said the EPWP, Jozi@Work and the Tshepo 500 programmes were all in operation throughout the quarter; these are the projects that can directly assist young people with employment opportunities, and even broaden their career pool by diversifying into Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo.

“However how many people under the age of 35 were employed in the programmes this past quarter?” asked Sharif.

The official said the DA believes in creating job opportunities for the youth and also empowering the youth of today to be better leaders of tomorrow.
