FlyAfrica to resume SA-Namibia service

FlyAfrica planeWINDHOEK, (CAJ News) -FLYAFRICA, the continent’s low cost airline, is set to ply the Johannesburg -Windhoek route at a discounted away price of R299 (about $24.92) next month.

A senior official confirmed the service that will apply the South African and Namibian city respectively.

Announcing the latest development, FlyAfrica Chief Executive Officer for Namibia, Clifford Strydom, said the low cost air carrier would resume the operation on September 2.

He said the airline had initially planned to start plying the lucrative route in March but legal battles with Air Namibia hampered the plans.

He said with the delays forced the airline to pay over N$5 million to customers that had booked.

“We have been frustrated and angered that our airline has been dragged through the courts simply to stop travelers from saving money on flights,” Strydom said

Strydom said FlyAfrica’s fares were a massive R1 325 (about $110.42) less than the fare sold by their competitors.

‘As a proud Namibian I have wanted to bring low fares to my country. FlyAfrica will revolutionise travel and bring low fares to regional passengers, Strydom said. ‘

The airline will initially operate three flights per week from Windhoek to Johannesburg.

Our first task is to earn back the trust of the Namibian traveler. I deeply regret the legal delays that were forced on us – all of which were spurious and rejected, said Strydom.
