JOHANNESBURG – JOHN Craig, the leading men’s fashion retailer, has opened a new outlet in Centurion as it continues defying the prevailing harsh economic conditions afflicting the sector in South Africa.

The new facility in the Gauteng Province is the retailer’s 104th store in the country.

John Craig has opened six new stores in the past three months and several other outlets are in the pipeline.

The developments come as the retailer topped the year with improved sales in the waning sector that is struggling to attract customers.

Lily Moreira, John Craig Managing Director, attributed the success to the company’s product facelift to modern-smart and a general shift to the younger professional that has boosted sales and business growth to include new stores.

“These bold moves have led to perhaps the most successful turnaround strategies in recent times as John Craig’s exciting new product range and effective marketing plan has seen the company boost sales and get back on the growth plan,” she said in Centurion.

“We needed complete alignment between our product, marketing and our sales force. We enhanced our stores and changed our imagery. We have introduced new offerings, and by fixing all of that, we have had the confidence to pen all these new stores.”

Established in 1947, John Craig is a subsidiary of the Cape Town-headquartered Pepkor.
