HARARE, (CAJ News) – ZIMBABWEAN residents in new suburbs in the capital Harare have bemoaned lack of telecommunications service following failure by the country’s sole fixed telephone line provider and network operators to connect them.
The companies, particularly landline services provider TelOne, have come under fire with the lack of connection has been reported in the Southlea Park and surrounding residential areas.
Mobile operators, namely Econet, NetOne and Telecel, have largely failed to provide a network.
“In this modern day of connectivity, how could a service provider such as TelOne, benefitting from state coffers fail to deliver tangible results,” questioned Dzingirai Maturure of Southlea Park.
“Southlea has become a huge town with more than 100 000 residents but surprisingly therevis no service from the state operator.”
Others took to social media to express their displeasure.
“Tel One ADSL, simply the worst! Connectivity using Tel One ADSL is so annoying! Unlimited package and I can’t just open a website for over 3 months. We report every week and nothing is done,” said Augustine Moyo.
Another resident concurred: “My ADSL ye $25 is lasting only 13 to 15 days. Anyone with similar issues. I have decided to change service provider.”
“Can we get a better service provider in Marondera. Why should we support and pay for inefficiencies and reward mediocrity in parastatals. No wonder it is perennially loss making,” fumed one resident on social media.
Midlred Mugebe of Southlea Park, vented his frustrations on Information and Communications Technology, Supa Mandiwanzira.
“I’m not so sure if the minister of ICT knows that many parts of the capital city are without connection,” Mildred Mugebe said.
Efforts to get comment from the minister and TelOne proved fruitless.
