Haidara named Africa ICT executive of the year

CAPE TOWN, (CAJ News) – BURKINA Faso telecommunications executive, Ben Cheik Haidara, has been named the sector’s Chief Executive Officer of the Year in the continent.
Haidara, the local CEO for Orange, has been honoured at the just-ended AfricaCom in South Africa.
A judging panel considered him ahead of Sherry Singh (CEO, Mauritius Telecom), Thomas Musili (Founder Director, Computers for Schools Kenya), Ronald Bogere Mitti (Chief Technology Officer, Bharti Airtel Tanzania) and John Momoh, the Chairman and CEO of Channels TV.
Orange, the French firm, launched its operations in Burkina Faso earlier this year. It is pursuing its development in mobile financial services and 3.75G mobile internet.
Thanks to an ambitious network modernisation plan and the strength of its parent company’s innovation capability, Orange Burkina Faso aims to bring an incomparable customer experience to its 6,3 million subscribers.
“Our ambition is to continue the work accomplished in recent years in the mobile money and mobile Internet fields to make Orange the leading partner for Burkina Faso’s digital transformation,” Haidara said previously.
Other winners were Mauritius Telecom (Best Network Improvement), MTN and Huawei (Excellence in Customer Experience), Ericsson (Best Network Function Virtualisation solution), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (Changing Lives Award).
Othe winners were Parallel Wireless (Most Innovative LTE Service/ Application Deployment), Telkom and Huawei (Best Innovation in Broadcast), Orange (Most Innovative Service- for rural electrification), BWTech International Limited (Outstanding Data Management or Analytics Solution) as well as Mahindra Comviva and Econet Wireless (IoT Product/Service of the Year).
